Our pups!

We have two huskies that we love a whole bunch! Cane is an all-white Siberian Husky with blue eyes. He is a lot of fun and we call him our power plant baby! We got him in AZ about an hour outside the city. The breeder was literally located right next to a power plant. I swear he has problems because of it! He's really smart and a really great dog! Lily is just as great! She is grey and white Siberian Husky with blue eyes. We also got her from a breeder in Arizona. She LOVES being on the bed with us and constantly is sneaking up in the middle of the night! She is also very smart, a little too smart! They love playing together and are happy that they have each other to keep company when we're at work.

Cane and Lily's Puppies

So neither of our dogs were altered/fixed, when we purchased them. We were debating on whether or not we wanted to breed them or getting them fixed. In the meantime, we were keeping them seperated when Lily would go into her heat cycle. Back in January (2009) we had left Lily outside in the yard and Cane indoors, while we volunteered at the local American Legion. When we came back we found a wooden door broken down and both Cane and Lily were outside. About 9 weeks later Lily gave birth to 5 puppies! They were all absolutely adorable and it was a nerve wracking experience. As soon as the second puppy was delivered though, it was clear there were problems with it. It wouldn't feed right away (which is not normal) and we tried everything to keep it alive. We tried tube feeding him with formula but it just wouldn't stay down. He made it through the night and we continued to try to bottle feed him but he just wouldn't suck the bottle and if we tried to drop it down his throat he would throw it back up. He didn't make it through the next night. :*(  It was devastating, yet interesting how Lily knew right away that there was something different about him. The other four flourished and grew up to be so adorable! They had all their vet checks and I have never seen so many people interested in puppies. There were 3 boys and 1 girl. We named them Pita (Pain In The Ass! He actually turned out to be great but when we named him he was such a well, pain in the ass), Cali, our only girl, (for a mix of CAne and LIli), Yale (Also a mix of cAnE and LilY), and Grover (Zach named him, I have no idea why it was Grover). They were so cute but so much work. Lily and Cane both were fixed after that experience! Ha! Here are some pics of them. They go in order from Lily being pregnant to the day they left with their new owners. My favorite is the bottom left with Cane and Grover (like father like son)! The two grey ones are Cali and Yale and the red and white ones are Pita and Grover. They all had blue eyes except Grover who was bi-eyed with one blue and one green.

In Memory of Monroe - RIP

Monroe was the best dog I have ever had! I rescued her from the streets of downtown Phoenix when I worked at the ballpark. I was waiting to meet up with a friend and there was Monroe running across the street. I didn't think it was very safe for a dog to be running lose so I called her over to check her tag. She didn't have a collar on so I just started petting her while I was waiting. In the meantime, another dog was being walked and it started barking at her and she just jumped into my car. It was then and there I decided to take her home with me. She was really dirty, so when I got home I gave her a bath and took her to the vet the next day. The vet said that she looked pretty young but that she was most likely used as a fighting dog (she was a pitbull). She had scars all over her face and her ears were cropped. So a couple years had gone by with multiple vet visits, and every time we found out something new. One eye was blurry and in the past they said it was allergies, but then I was told she had cataracts and was completely blind in that eye! How do you miss that? Apparently it is extremely painful, kind of like having a migraine all the time. I also found out that she actually wasn't young at all, but more around the age of 12! Then they informed me at another visit that she was most likely used for a breeding dog once she stopped winning during the fights. By the last vet visit I knew our time with Monroe was coming to an end and then they told me that she had multiple ovarian cysts that could be cancerous and given her age, surgery might not be the best idea. So after the cataracts, blindness, 24/7 migraine, and now the possibility of cancer, we decided the best thing to do would be to let her go. That was by far the hardest thing and I think about her all the time. She was an amazing dog. All she ever wanted to do was lay in the sun and cuddle with me. She was the most appreciative dog and I miss her a lot.
